This report shares the October 2025 scrap metal price trends for ferrous (iron scrap) and non-ferrous (stainless steel 304 and 316) materials. The data is based on weekly averages collected by Seokyung, a company specializing in industrial used-equipment trading. It is for reference only, as actual prices may vary by region and buyer.

 

In the last five weeks, ferrous scrap (heavy and light steel) stayed stable. Heavy steel dropped slightly from 390 KRW/kg in September to 380 KRW/kg by the end of October. Light steel also moved from 330 to 310 KRW/kg. The overall market shows a calm and balanced trend. Domestic demand for scrap remains weak because factory operation rates and construction activities are still slow. Supply is steady, but buying volume is low, keeping the price flat.

 

For non-ferrous stainless steel (STS 304 and 316), prices increased in September and stayed high in October. STS 304 rose from 1,470 to 1,500 KRW/kg, and STS 316 moved from 2,900 to 3,000 KRW/kg. The rise came from two global factors: higher international nickel prices and the strong Korean won-dollar exchange rate. Nickel and chromium are key materials in stainless steel, so when their global prices climb, stainless scrap prices also rise.

 

In the market, this means sellers of stainless-steel-based used equipment—such as tanks, pipes, or frames—may find October a good time to sell. Scrap values are stable, helping them close deals faster. For iron scrap, however, profits remain small, and traders should consider transportation and collection costs carefully before deciding to sell or buy.

 

Buyers and sellers should remember that actual prices differ by region, quality, and purity. Contaminated or mixed metals often sell at lower prices. Also, market conditions may change quickly at the end of each quarter when factories adjust their inventories.

 

Overall, October showed stable iron scrap prices and firm stainless steel prices. If global nickel prices remain high, stainless steel scrap will likely stay strong through November. On the other hand, without new demand from construction or manufacturing, iron scrap will probably keep moving sideways.
